Suitable for welding magnesium bearing aluminium such as 5251, 5154, 5454 and heat treatable alloys 6063, 6061 and 6082.
It is typically chosen because of its relatively high shear strength.
5356 alloy base material has a weld pool chemistry greater than 3% Mg and service temperatures in excess of 65 C.
High strength weld deposit with very good crack resistance are achieved with 5356, corrosion resistance is also very good especially in a marine atmosphere.
A much closer colour match to the base material will be achieved after anodizing with 5356 alloy.
